Review of Defensive Magic by Kate Baray

**I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review**
Lizzy Smith was a magic castor. John Braton is Lizzy's mate and Alpha of the Texas pack. David Clark challenged John at his home. John, in wolf form, broke David's leg. His father, Grant, was the Alpha of the Idaho pack. David said his father had nothing to do with his being there. Grant had kidnapped Lizzy a few weeks before. David was an enforcer for his father and Grant's only son. Anna was David's wife and a healer. David had a gift given to him to mask his scent. It was a bean he had to swallow and it would remove his scent for 2hrs. Worth was a powerful spell caster and mastermind behind a criminal enterprise and the closest Lizzy came to having a real nemesis. Worth was frighteningly powerful, viscous and single-minded. Evan, a younger pack member, was at the diner talking crap about John. Max told Evan to respect his Alpha and Evan disagreed. John had a second challenge from the Oregon enforcer who cheated and used magic.
Lizzy was just learning about the magic inside of her, but she is loving, loyal and caring. She can be stubborn and extremely determined, a very enjoyable character. John was very strong, mentally and physically. He was determined, loyal and true, yet he could be tender and loving. He was another enjoyable character.
Good story. I recommend it to anyone that likes this genre.
