Review: Fire Wolf

Image
Fire Wolf by J.K. Harper My rating: 4 of 5 stars Tanner Canagan and Jordyn Lowe have both known heartbreak. Because of this, neither of them lets anyone too close because of this, even if it causes them to deny their own mate.Tanner never stays in one place for very long and refuses to access that Jordyn is his mate before he runs again. This was a quick read about two people that don’t think they have the right to be mates. Jordyn is stubborn enough to just accept what Tanner offers and not fight for her mate. While this is irritating without knowing the details for her being so shutoff, it is understanding. For Tanner, it takes a bit more before his stubbornness will finally accept his destiny. I highly recommend. **I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book View all my reviews

Review: Mountain Bear's Baby: Silvertip Shifters

Image
Mountain Bear's Baby: Silvertip Shifters by J.K. Harper My rating: 5 of 5 stars Jessie McMillan and her baby have just moved to the town of her best friend, enjoying a fresh start where her son will safely be around other shifters. She didn’t count on her baby’s father and the enigma of a 3-day fling to also live there. This is a short and sweet story about two lost souls finding happiness, even when one of them unconsciously denies that he can have a soul mate. Perfect for the holidays and anyone that likes shifter stories. *I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book View all my reviews

Review: The Second Stage of Grief

Image
The Second Stage of Grief by Katherine Hayton My rating: 4 of 5 stars Ngaire Blakes is an ex-cop trying to get her life together after battling PTSD. When she’s dragged into a murder investigation that points back to her, she prepares to stop the killer. This was the first time I read this author. It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book in this genre so it was a good change of pace. The book is set in New Zealand and the author was very good in the familiarity of the surrounding and customs, so that was a bit different for me, but not in a bad way. Being a strong, independent woman, I really enjoy books where the lead female is the same. I really enjoyed reading as everything unraveled. I can’t wait to read more from this author. I highly recommend. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book. View all my reviews

Review: A Taste of Seduction

Image
A Taste of Seduction by Bronwen Evans My rating: 4 of 5 stars Five years ago, Lady Evangeline Stuart and Lord Hadley Fullerton were so in love, they were going to defy their families and run off to be married. Yet, instead of his bride, Hadley received a note from her saying she’d rather marry for money. Now she’s back in London a widow and wants to meet him again. Hadley would rather marry a wallflower than put up with any of her lies. The plot sounded a little like a book I read not too long ago so I really didn’t think I was going to like it. However, I’m glad I gave it a chance because I really enjoyed the characters and plot. I’m glad it wasn’t predictable and had a number of twists I didn’t really see coming. Now I want to find other books in the series! I can’t wait for the next book. I highly recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Review: Storm of Ecstasy

Image
Storm of Ecstasy by Setta Jay My rating: 4 of 5 stars Pothos, the son of Hades and one of the Guardians, just found out that his mother wasn’t from his world. Shortly thereafter, he finds himself in another world and finds his mate, then gets sucked back into his world. Gefn has no idea why her protective cats have led her to a lake where a mysterious man is. He gives her a kiss like no other and then disappears. Now she’s going to have to explain this to her brother and hope it’ll help them find their missing sister. This is a continuation of the Guardians of the Realm series and it doesn’t disappoint. It was a quick read, very steamy and makes you want more. Pothos is just as hot as the others. I really loved the book. I can’t wait for the next one. I highly recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Review: Her Rogue Alpha

Image
Her Rogue Alpha by Paige Tyler My rating: 5 of 5 stars Jayson Harmon was severly injured during a mission a while ago. Since then he’s felt less than a man. He also doesn’t understand why Layla Halliwell wants anything to do with him. When an opportunity to make him complete comes along, he jumps at the chance, regardless the risks. My heart broke for Jayson when he was introduced in a previous book, so I was excited to see he got his own book and it didn’t disappoint. His determination to be the the man he feels Layla deserves at all costs made me love him even more. I thought Layla complimented him perfectly. She loves him for the man he is, scars and all and is willing to do anything to stay with him through everything. I absolutely loved it and highly recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Review: Bitter Bite

Image
Bitter Bite by Jennifer Estep My rating: 0 of 5 stars Gin Blanco is back. This time she isn’t fighting bitter enemies. This time she’s trying to not lose her brother Finn when his mother mysteriously re-appears from the grave. After reading a number of books about the same character, I tend to lose interest, but not with Gin Blanco. This is the third book I’ve read from the series (alas I didn’t start with book 1), but even though the series is well established I love reading about everything Gin goes through. This one was incredibly personal for her as she tries to protect Finn the only way she knows how and yet still be there in the way he wants her to. I loved the book. I highly recommend the series. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Review: Merry Cowboy Christmas

Image
Merry Cowboy Christmas by Carolyn Brown My rating: 5 of 5 stars Fiona Logan comes home on Thanksgiving. This time, however, it’s to start her life over after a horrible divorce that forced her to leave her job. Almost to her family home, she loses control of her vehicle and meets Jud Dawson, who comes to her aid. I’m not huge on contemporaries (movies or books), but for some reason I will binge-watch Christmas movies and find some Christmas stories to read. I just love the holiday spirit. This book encompassed everything I love about those movies. Fiona is a strong woman trying to start all over but hating having to come home and admit everything she’s been through. Jud is a hawt knight in shining armor who just wants her to love him. The author does a great job of giving you that small-town feel, inflicted with a lot of faith. I really loved the book and highly recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review

Review: Moonbound Series Boxed Set

Image
Moonbound Series Boxed Set by Krystal Shannan My rating: 5 of 5 stars Seducing a Wolf - 4 Stars Alejandro “Alex” Sureda’s task is to find the evil wolf’s daughter, get her to her suite and find her tablet. However, once he gets near her in the club, his magic pulls him right to her, only, she’s human when she definitely shouldn’t be. Julianna Rossi is Adrian Rossi’s daughter. Only, she doesn’t know his dark secrets. She only knows to clean up his messes and gets opportunities to relax only when he’s gone. When she meets Alex, she has know idea why she has such a pull to him, she only knows she doesn’t want it to end. This was another great piece to the overall story that I loved, until the very end. I felt that Alex was deservedly given payback for the way he had treated Rain and Nora. I liked getting to know Julianna also. The only thing I had a small problem with was how quick she forgave him. I know it’s a novella, so they’re quick, and there’s a

Review: Moonbound Series Boxed Set

Image
Moonbound Series Boxed Set by Camryn Rhys My rating: 5 of 5 stars The Werewolf Cowboy - 5 Stars Of all the VonBrondt’s in Somewhere, TX, Allan is the most human-like. He embraces his role as sheriff and protector of humans. He doesn’t believe in the idea of pre-destined mates and even plans on eventually marrying a human. When there are packs from other states in his town, Allan is very leary, especially when he’s called to the bar over a disturbance. Reyna DuBois is the daughter of the alpha from Louisiana and she embodies everything Allan hates about wolves. When she feels the mate magic after scenting Allan, she pulls out all of the stops to rope the cowboy, even as he runs in the other direction. I was really happy to see Allan finally get his own book. I loved watching the back and forth between him and Reyna as he fought his destiny. It was quick, but full of story. I loved it and highly recommend. The Werewolf Bodyguard - 5 Stars Marco DiSanti

Review: Dirty Little Lies

Image
Dirty Little Lies by Lora Leigh My rating: 5 of 5 stars Grace Maddox is in grave danger for the lie her treacherous deceased mother told. The one man fighting to save her is the one man she’s been in love with for years and whom she had always assumed wasn’t any more than an accountant. She’s about to find out that not only was that a lie, but everything she felt she ever knew was one big lie. I’m a huge Lora Leigh fan and have been reading her books for years, although my preference is her breed series. I have to say this was probably one of my favorite books of hers. I really loved Grace. I wanted to cry for her for everything she went through. There were definitely some twists I definitely didn’t see coming. The only thing was, the beginning with the family connections was a little confusing, but that was probably because I haven’t read any from this series before. I highly recommend, **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest rev

Review: Wolf's Magic

Image
Wolf's Magic by Rebecca Royce My rating: 5 of 5 stars Azriel Kane is the fifth brother in the Westervelt royal brothers. He’s very different from his brothers. He prefers the lab and analytic rather than action and violence. He’s also hiding a secret about himself that would make him even more different from the rest. Leah St. James wakes up in wolf form, in a cage, with no memory at all. The only comfort is the man that stays in the lab where she’s being held. This was a great addition to the Westervelt wolf series. I really felt for Leah as she tried to remember who she was and then what she had to deal with in the end. Poor Az. While all of the brothers were sculpted in a horrible manner by their father, I felt Az had it the worst. I was glad to see that he felt his difference finally seriously contributed to the pack and that he was able to find some happiness. I highly recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest re

Review: My Wild Irish Dragon

Image
My Wild Irish Dragon by Ashlyn Chase My rating: 2 of 5 stars Chloe Arish and Ryan Fiero are both out for the same position in a Boston fire department. After Chloe proves she’s just as capable as Ryan, the chief manages to get them both hired. From then on, sparks fly between the two as they train together and eventually work together. Ok, for the most part, this book was 3 stars. I liked Chloe and Ryan, not loved, but that’s ok. I liked the plot, even though there was no really big conflict and much of it was predictable. What made me give it only a 2 was one of the side characters. Without giving anything away, I basically hated Mother Nature. I didn’t like that the author mixed the Mother Nature character with a Greek Mythological character (this was forgivable), but I really didn’t like her interactions in the book at all and didn’t see why she was necessary. I also didn’t understand why she got mad when a supernatural character revealed themselv

Review: Travis Justice

Image
Travis Justice by Colleen Shannon My rating: 4 of 5 stars Hana Nakatomi must steal a special sword from a very high up home in order to restore honor to her grandfather before he dies. While searching, she’s seen by Zach Travis a military vet whose family destiny is for him to become a Texas Ranger. This was a pretty good story. I thought the author did a great job with the characters’ development. I really felt for Zach, dealing with the pressure from his father and PTSD. I recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Review: Lure of Obsession

Image
Lure of Obsession by Lisa Kessler My rating: 5 of 5 stars Melany Jacoby, the Muse of Tragic Poetry, came home from work and found her roommate dead. Detective Nate Malone responded to a call about the death. From the moment he got there and met Melany, he wanted nothing more than to protect her. He also started seeing weird visions that might make her argument on how her roommate died believable. Being a fan of this author, I couldn’t wait for this book to come out. My love of Greek mythology being used by one of my favorite authors made this a must read. I was very happy that she didn’t disappoint. Once I started this book, I couldn’t put it down. Following Nate as he learns about Melany’s world and what he’s meant to do kept me completely pulled in. I loved both main characters and can’t wait to read the next book in this series. I highly recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Review: Winter's Path

Image
Winter's Path by Kelly Moran My rating: 4 of 5 stars Matt Holcomb and Jenny Winter have been best friends for a long time. Matt had always been the reliable one, the boy next door, until tragedy happened. Now he has a carefully constructed wall, determined to keep up at all costs. Unfortunately for him, after passion bursts between them, Jenny is exactly the one that could possibly destroy his walls. I didn’t read the first book in this series, so this was my first look at these characters, and right from the beginning, my heart bled for Matt. Like all of this author’s books, this was a great story. The characters go through so much in the story that you can’t help but cheer for them to find happiness. I loved both of the main characters as well as the plot. I can’t wait to read more from the author. I highly recommend. View all my reviews

Review: Summer's Wolf

Image
Summer's Wolf by Rebecca Royce My rating: 4 of 5 stars Three years ago, Summer Morrison found out that werewolves exist and that she was one of them. It was the beginning of the end of her life. On the same night, Cullen Murphy, pack assassin and protector, found out that Summer was his soul mate. At the request of her mother, Cullen leaves Summer alone, giving her time to finish maturing and accept her new live. Now tragedy has put them back together as they fight for the pack. This was a really good story. It was really quick and keeps your interest the entire time. Summer did a lot of quick growing and accepting throughout the course of the book. However, Cullen did his own growing throughout the book as he adjusts to having a soul mate after 300 years alone. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

The World on a Plate: 40 Cuisines, 100 Recipes, and the Stories Behind Them by Mina Holland My rating: 5 of 5 stars The World On A Plate is a cookbook where the author shares her love of food as well as the world. Not only does she give you dishes from around the world, she gives you the stories behind them as well as cultural history of the different dishes. I think that anyone that has a passion for food will enjoy it. It was a really good book to read through. A License to Wed: Rebellious Brides by Diana Quincy My rating: 5 of 5 stars When Lady Elinor Dunsmore was a little girl, she swore she was going to marry Will Naismith, her brother’s best friend. Just before she’s to come out to society, they share a night of passion that will lead to a number of events that change their lives forever. This was a really good story. My heart cried at everything that happened because of assumptions and lack of communications. I really felt for everything Elinor, Will and her entire family had been through. I highly recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Review: Beauty and the Highland Beast

Image
Beauty and the Highland Beast by Lecia Cornwall My rating: 5 of 5 stars Dair Sinclair was the chief’s son and clan favorite. When something horrible happens to him, he almost dies and starts to go crazy. His father desperately pulls in a number of mid-wives to try to help his son. When the latest one tells him that a virgin must be brought to the keep, he hurries to a neighboring clan where there are a number of females. Let me start by saying I think my favorite character is probably Fia’s father Donal! The few times we see in his head are absolutely hilarious. He really loves his daughters in a time when that wasn’t necessarily the case. Aside from Fia’s father, I really loved both Fia and Dair. My heart bled for both of them. They went through so much before even finding each other. The story itself was really good. I didn’t predict a number of the twists the author put in there. I highly recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange fo

Review: Cowboy Player

Image
Cowboy Player by Mia Hopkins My rating: 4 of 5 stars Clark and Melody have been friends for ever. Since moving back to town, she’s been helping out with his family business while putting her sister through nursing school. Clark has always been a player, but he’s finally ready to tell the only woman he's ever loved that he wants to be with her. The problem is she is really skittish after a bad relationship. Surprisingly I really liked this book. I was kind of iffy on it but I really enjoyed it. The characters were really well written. I'd love to read more from this author. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Review: To Love a Wolf

Image
To Love a Wolf by Paige Tyler My rating: 4 of 5 stars SWAT officer Landry Cooper happens to be in a bank when he senses something’s about to go down, just as he starts to talk to a beautiful woman. Everly Danu doesn’t normally go for the alpha male, bu the cop that starts talking to her is hard to resist. When he saves her life during a bank robbery, she promises him the best date of his life. Unfortunately she doesn’t know that he’s hiding a big secret, he’s a werewolf. Like the other books the author has written, the story and characters were well written. There was also an introduction to a possible danger against the werewolves. I really enjoyed the story. I recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest View all my reviews

Review: Lana and the Laird

Image
Lana and the Laird by Sabrina York My rating: 4 of 5 stars Lachlan Sinclair and and his entire family for generations is cursed. Each male dies by their 30th birthday. He’s been slowly going crazy as his father’s ghost has been haunting him, pushing him to find a mythical treasure before his death. The one thing he didn’t plan on in his final quest is Lana Dounreay. This was a really good book. I really liked Lana in particular. I felt really bad for the way she was treated in the beginning, but she really shone when she came upon Lachlan’s dilemma. I liked Lachlan but he was a bit trusting of the wrong people. I’m not really sure why it actually took me some time to read the book. It was just one I had to take some breaks from. I highly recommend it though. **I received a ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Review: Inseverable

Image
Inseverable by Cecy Robson My rating: 4 of 5 stars This is the last free Summer for Trinity and her close friends before they start the real world come September. On a ritual trip to the local bar, Trinity notices the new bartender and can’t keep her eyes off of him. After an evening of trying to make him smile, or at least acknoweldge her, she’s pretty sure he’s pretty close to hating her. However, it just makes her more determined. I am a big fan of this author, so I was pretty excited to read a book from the new series. Overall it was a great book. The author tends to write books with so much heartbreak and drama that you want to pull your hair out and beg for the HEA to get there. While Callahan was in a bad place personally and had went through so much, this wasn’t as heart-wrenching as a number of her other books. My only issue with this was how cheerful (determinedly cheerful at that) Trinity is. I totally understand why she is, I’m just not a

Review: Her Wolf

Image
Her Wolf by Rebecca Royce My rating: 4 of 5 stars Ashlee Morrison thinks she’s going crazy...again. She’s become a bit obsessed with a wolf who may or may not be talking to her. Tristan Kane is a shifter that has been stuck in his wolf form and trapped at a zoo. When he finally gets a real scent of a worker that he’s been keeping an eye on makes him realize that she’s actually his mate. Like with all of this author’s books, this was a really good story and I really loved all of the characters. I really felt for Ashlee as she basically had her world flipped upside down right from the beginning. The only thing that bothered me was that it felt rushed in some places where I would’ve liked it to not have been. Beyond that, I highly recommend this story and can’t wait to read more from this series. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Review: Senn

Image
Senn by Lane Hart My rating: 5 of 5 stars One night of temptation that he knew he should resist and his life gets turned upside down... Let me start by saying that while reading this story, I had to ultimately keep the faith in the author’s story-telling as there were a number of things I don’t like in a story that were pertinent in this story. But if it had been a flowery, love at first sight-type story, then it wouldn’t have been an excellent story that I couldn’t put down. Once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down, reading it in a very short time. I was equally cursing and praising the author for everything that made this story. I also loved seeing Mason again!! I liked Abby’s character but I really loved Seen. My heart went out to both of of them, but especially Senn for all the growth and pain he went through. I absolutely loved this book and I highly recommend it. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review

Review: SEAL's Bride: A Secret Baby Romance

Image
SEAL's Bride: A Secret Baby Romance by Vivian Wood My rating: 5 of 5 stars Remy River and Sawyer Roman were high school sweethearts. As soon as he graduated, Sawyer left for the Navy and left Remy behind. After one particular leave at home, Remy’s life has changed forever. I’m not too much into second chances, but I haven’t read a secret baby story in a long time, which was a nice change of pace, and you gotta love SEALs. With a combination of themes, I wasn’t sure how I’d feel in the end, but I absolutely loved this story. I really could sympathize with Remy and I loved how strong she was for her baby. I was also really glad the author kept her character true once Sawyer appeared. The only thing I really didn’t get was why Sawyers brothers didn’t tell him anything. Regardless, I absolutely loved it and would love to read more stories from these two families. I highly recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review

Review: The Dark Vampire

Image
The Dark Vampire by Kate Baxter My rating: 5 of 5 stars Jenner is newly turned. His thirst is insatiable. He figures it’s only a matter of time before he’s put down. His next assignment is to guard a head Dhampire’s niece. After a three day blood and sex binge, she shows up at his king’s home, ready to begin his assignment. What he finds is someone he can’t hope to ever resist. This was a really good story. With the way it started, I wasn’t sure I was going to like it, or at least not like Jenner. I decided to stick with it and I’m glad I did. The more the author dug into the story, the more I felt for Jenner and Bria. They were both victims of circumstance and you really just want them to be happy in the end. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can’t wait for the next one from this author. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Review: The Trouble with Temptation

Image
The Trouble with Temptation by Shiloh Walker My rating: 5 of 5 stars After a brutal accident she can’t remember, Hannah wakes up from a coma. She’s finds out she’s pregnant and has no memory. Once she sees Brannon McKay, she doesn’t remember him per se, but she knows it’s his voice that helped her to wake up. This was an excellent book. The story picks up pretty much where Brannon’s sister’s book ends. It pulls you right back into the town and the new danger they are facing. The characters were very detailed. It’s a pretty long book, but it keeps your full attention the entire time. I can’t wait for the third story. I highly recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Review: Much Ado About Highlanders

Image
Much Ado About Highlanders by May McGoldrick My rating: 4 of 5 stars Alexander Macpherson agreed to an arranged marriage to Kenna Mackay. What he didn’t agree to was her running away on their wedding night. Now that she’s in his sights again, he’s determined to not let her go. Overall this was a really great book. I absolutely LOVED Kenna’s character. She was probably one of my favorite female characters in a long time, if ever. I really liked Alexander’s character too, especially as he grew more determined that he wanted to keep Kenna. My only problem is with a reference to Alexander. The description on the book states him as a widower, which there’s no reference to this in the book. It actually takes place months after Kenna took off, which didn’t bother me. The only reference to his character is that he slept with a lot of women. This irritated me because there didn’t seem to be any reason to bring this up in the book, especially with no reference

Review: Throttle: A Bad Boy Sports Romance

Image
Throttle: A Bad Boy Sports Romance by Teagan Kade My rating: 4 of 5 stars Andy Fortes is at the top of his game in the Formula One track. He loves fast cars and fast women. When he meets Sara Young, a representative of a high-end sponsor, he has to get her in his bed. First, he’ll have to break down the wall of ice she has separating them. Surprisingly, I really liked this book. I’m not too big on contemporary and I hadn’t heard of the author before, but I like the Sports Romance themes and the description caught my attention. Regardless of it being a quick read, I thought the author did a great job of giving a full story, throwing in some unexpected twists while building the tension and relationship between the two main characters. The hot scenes were just a bonus! I highly recommend this story. **I received a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Dirty by Kylie Scott My rating: 5 of 5 stars Lydia Green is waiting to walk down the aisle when she gets an video of her fiance in a compromising position from an anonymous number. She takes off and breaks into a house nearby. When the owner of said house finds her, he’s not exactly pleased but he hears her out and decides to help her. This was a really great story. I had read the stories from this author’s previous series and had, for the most part, really enjoyed them so I was excited to get this. It didn’t disappoint. I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed Lydia’s character. Her thoughts are absolutely hilarious. I also LOVED the pop up appearance from my favorite character from her previous series. I highly recommend this book. **I received a copy of this story from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

After no luck in finding a reasonable apartment, she takes up her uncle’s recommendation on an old Army buddy who needs a roommate. After being struck by an IUD, Zeke May’s was drastically changed. Now finally living his life again, he finds he needs a roommate. When he agrees to meeting his friend’s niece, he certainly wasn’t expecting Margo. This was sweet contemporary about building, or rebuilding in Zeke’s case, a life and going for what you want. Not much drama and a quick read. Review: Bad Potions

Image
Bad Potions by Michelle Fox My rating: 5 of 5 stars Marion is a witch and about to fail out of her potions class. Her teacher gives her some advice that maybe what she needs is some real love to get her potion to work. Aidan has just been banished by the Queen of the Fae. He must find an imperfect female and make her fall in love with him. What could go wrong? This was a cute and quick read. Poor Aidan can’t seem to say the right thing to anyone, which tends to lead to his getting into trouble, but for some reason, he doesn’t have that problem with Marion. Marion goes through a lot in this book, from a scared shell to someone who can really stand up for herself. It was a really great read. Review: Remember Me Always

Image
Remember Me Always by Angela Snyder My rating: 5 of 5 stars Penny has been in New York for the past 5 years, far away from her hometown in Alabama. Ever since her one true love, Colton, inexplicably broke up with her, she’s avoided like the plague. She’s decided it’s time to return and confront him, only he doesn’t remember her at all… All I can say is WOW! So I’m not too much into general contemporary romance, but this one sounded good so I thought I’d give it a try. This was definitely an emotional roller coaster and even for someone like me who doesn’t necessarily believe in soul mates, it makes you want to believe. My heart cried for both Colton and Penny. For everything Colton lost and for the heartache Penny experience once she went home. It was definitely worth the loss of sleep I experienced because I couldn’t put it down. I highly recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Review: Awakened

Image
Awakened by Elisabeth Naughton My rating: 5 of 5 stars Elysia is a princess on Argolia, a land ruled by the descendants of the original Argonauts. When she finds out that her parents have arranged her marriage to a councilman's son rather than a mate of her choosing, she's furious and takes off. When she goes to the portal guarded by witches, she finds they've been attacked and she's captured by the Sirens to become their newest recruit. While on a dangerous island to complete the first set of tasks, she meets Damon, toy of the Gods for the past 25 years. He doesn't remember anything before that time, but there's something explosive between the two of them that just can't be coincidence. When I started reading this book, there were two things that had me iffy about wanting to read it. 1-Having grown up on Greek Mythology, I HATE it when authors take too many liberties. 2-The obviousness of what the hero's been doing fo

Review: Hidden Scars

Image
Hidden Scars by A.M. Myers My rating: 4 of 5 stars Emma's last relationship left her a shell of her former self. The only life she has left consists of tending bar. Once day she decides to get a tattoo to make sure she never forgets what she went through and to move on. Then she meets Phoenix "Nix" West, the tattoo artist and nephew of her boss and family friend. As soon as Nix sees Emma, he can't stop thinking about her. He can tell she has hidden scars, but he's determined to help her through and win her heart. Unfortunately, with Nix's appearance in her life, her nightmare also resurfaces. Overall, this was a really good book. The author starts you at the beginning of Emma's road to recovery, allowing you to following through as she finds herself and makes Nix the number one wanted book boyfriend. There were flashback chapters that showed you exactly what happened to her as she tries to move on even when she didn'

Review: Trust

Image
Trust by P.J. Adams My rating: 5 of 5 stars Jess Taylor was raised by the the motto “Don’t trust a man that says “Trust Me””. Even with that firmly in her head, when she meets Dean Bailey on a final mission for her grandmother, all bets are off. There’s something brewing between the two of them that she just can’t help but be pulled into his dangerous life and change hers completely. This was a very fast paced suspense novel that definitely threw me for a loop at the end. The story had me so engrossed that I totally bought the love at first sight pull between the main characters, which can be a hit or miss with me. I really liked everything about Jess’s character, the way she delved into the underbelly of London that she had no idea she was linked to and just kept digging to find answers. Dean’s character was a well written gangster. Unfortunately, my mind wanted to give him an Italian American accent because of this and because of how engrossed in

Review: Broken Wolf

Image
Broken Wolf by Krystal Shannan My rating: 5 of 5 stars Vadik Nabatov was contacted by his friend Luther for a special job. Since he owed him his life, he agreed. When he saw that he had to work with civilians he wasn't happy. Andrea VonBrandt and all of the enforcers are officially going against their alphas as their determination and desperation to catch a monster has taken control. When Andrea finds out they have to let yet another human help them, she's not happy. This is the 8th of nine books in this series and this one blew my socks off. The story story just as quick as the others but this one flipped the script and shook things up a bit. I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Review: Saving a Wolf

Image
Saving a Wolf by Camryn Rhys My rating: 5 of 5 stars Maggie and the other enforcers are trying to find an ally in Luther Frost, the transporter for Rossi to and from his island. As soon as she gets closer to the human, she can feel her magical pull. Now, not only will she have to convince him to help therm but also that they are meant to be together. This story was as fast-paced as the rest in the series. Maggie is very determined. She will do whatever it takes to stop this monster. Luther is in a bad place personally, and it takes Maggie’s strong personality and belief in him for him to accept the happiness she presents. I highly recommend this book. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Review: Melt For Me

Image
Melt For Me by Elisabeth Naughton My rating: 5 of 5 stars Ella McKinley is a widowed bar owner in Holly, NC, a town 100% dedicated to Christmas and all that entails. It is the place farthest from where she ever thought she’d run into her one great love. Until she comes in one evening and sees him singing in her bar, looking far better than she remembered from years before. Now it’s up to Tate to find out why she left him and refused to look back. I’m a bit picky on second-chance loves so I didn’t have too many expectations on this. However, once I started it, I didn’t stop until I was finished. I thought the author did an excellent job with Ella’s character. As the story progressed, we got to see further into Ella’s thinking and got the why’s of what she did. I felt the story played out very well and the resurgence of Ella’s and Tate’s relationship was perfect. I highly recommend. View all my reviews

Review: To Win Her Heart

Image
To Win Her Heart by Mackenzie Crowne My rating: 5 of 5 stars Jessi Tucker is a Country Music Superstar, but there’s only one thing she’s ever wanted: Max Grayson’s heart. When threatening letters and a meltdown give her an opportunity to finally try to snag him, Jessi jumps at the chance. Little does she know that Max has been avoiding her because he feels the same way and is just too terrified of the little slip of a woman and what she represents. This was a really good book. I loved all the characters, especially getting to see the characters from previous books. I really felt for Max and everything he continued to struggle with that forced him to reject happiness. Jessi is just a ball of fire. I love books that give strong female leads that aren’t afraid to take what they want. I highly recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Review: Smoke and Fire: Part 1

Image
Smoke and Fire: Part 1 by Donna Grant My rating: 5 of 5 stars Kinsey receives a job task that takes her to Draegon, a whisky brewery. When she gets there, she finds out that not only does it look like she was set up, but Ryder, her ex-lover who left without a word and, OH, turns out to be a mythical dragon, happens to work there. Now she will have to work with him to find out who set her up. This is the first part in next book of this author’s Dark Kings series. Unlike the previous ones, Kinsey has already had her heart shattered by Ryder and found out the wrong way what he really was. So far, I am liking the story and the build up of the characters. Kinsey is smart and definitely spunky. Then again, this author writes all of her heroines smart and successful.I can’t wait to read the next one. I highly recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Review: Her Fierce Warrior

Image
Her Fierce Warrior by Paige Tyler My rating: 5 of 5 stars It took Minka Pajari weeks of walking through a jungle to get close to home after being tortured for months in a lab she finally escaped from, a lab that had turned her into a monster. As she took a few minutes to rest, several men tried to attack her and the monster took over. Then she heard HIM and somehow her monster started to calm… This was a really good book. I really loved the instant connect and safety that Minka felt for Angelo and how he instantly became her protector. The book flowed really well and kept you completely immersed. I highly recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Review: The Study of Seduction

Image
The Study of Seduction by Sabrina Jeffries My rating: 5 of 5 stars Edwin Barlow, Earl of Blakeborough, was just asked an impossible favor by his good friend. He was tasked with escorting his friend’s cousin, Lady Clarissa Lindsey, around London and protect her while he’s out of the country on an important task. The biggest problem with this favor is that Clarissa exhibits characteristics Edwin would never want in a wife, yet he’s wanted her for years. This book reminded me of why I love historical romance. It was fairly lighthearted, yet the author had some pretty heavy underlying plots, not to mention some hot scenes. It does bear mentioning that Edwin had me from the beginning, as he reminded me so much of Mr. Darcy. I love every book this author puts out. Her books keep getting better and better. I highly recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Review: The Princess Wore Plaid

Image
The Princess Wore Plaid by Karen Hawkins My rating: 5 of 5 stars Due to an accident with her carriage, Princess Tataina Romanovin is penniless and stuck in a Scottish inn working as a maid where nobody believes she’s a princess. Lord Buchan still suffers from a horrible accident from the year before. When he sees the new maid at the inn he eats his Friday dinners at, there’s something about her that won’t let him get her out of his mind. I’ve read a number of books from this author, but I think this one is my favorite by far. I loved the way Tataina and Buchan were able to connect with each other and the way her presence was able to heal Buchan. She also learned a lesson in how to be humble, which doesn’t usually happen in any book, regardless of the genre. I loved it and I highly recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review View all my reviews

Review: Wicked Enchantment

Image
Wicked Enchantment by Sabrina York My rating: 4 of 5 stars Keeshan has been cursed and trapped in a magic lamp for 2000 years. Every 100 years he is sent one woman to love. As soon as they fall in love, she is taken from him and then he’s left with heartbreak for another one hundred years. In present time, he is sent Aimalee. Aimalee is quick witted and rather than just succumb to Keeshan’s body, she wants to find a way to help him, but can she? This is the second story I’ve read by this author and I really enjoyed it. This was pretty quick with plenty of hot scenes. While some of it was pretty obvious, I was actually surprised by some of the plot twists. It was definitely written as if it had come from one of my fantasies. I have only read one or two stories with this kind of theme so it was a nice break for the typical paranormal or contemporary story. I highly recommend it. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review
