Review of Fury (Blur Trilogy #2) by Steven James

Image
Daniel was quarterback and all-conference point guard in a school where sports were huge. Daniel's dad was the Sheriff, his friend was Kyle Goessell and his girlfriend was Nicole Martin. She was quirky and fun. They had been friends for years before they had started dating. Timber wolves were protected, but recently someone was poaching them. So far, four of them had been shot and left to die just for sport. Something was wrong with Daniel and it wasn't physical. When you start seeing and hearing things, sleep walking, and digging up dead pets...Daniel notices anything dealing with math and numbers. Kyle came up with the term "Blur" for when fantasy and reality, or sanity and insanity, merged on Daniel. Daniel is a young man who is questioning his sanity. He loves his dad. He is brave and caring. He is a good boy that has a lot happening to him. Through the twists and turns, he finally realizes he's not going crazy, or is he?? I really enjoyed this story, excelle

Review of The City Beneath by Melody Johnson

Cassidy DiRocco is a reporter. She heard a hiss from the alley and went to see what it was. It was a man severely burned with 3rd degree burns all over his body. She called Detective Gretta Wahl to let her know they had another live victim. They already had 7. She asked her to send her brother Nathan. Detective Wahl was a friend and sometimes informant to Cassidy. Meridith Drake was photographer and a close friend. Donovan, Nathan's medic partner, showed up at the site and said the man was dead. Nathan had also stopped and said the man was still alive but had died shortly thereafter. Walking home to her apartment, Cass was plowed down by the man who was supposed to be dead, but he's not completely human. Cass's intervention saved him. His gift to her is not to kill her, Meridith, Donovan, Nathan, and Detective Wahl. Cass was again attacked and she ran to get home. First her arm, then her legs, then her stomach. Lysander saved her. He was the creature from the night before.

Review of The Werewolf Wears Prada by Kristin Miller

Melina Rae Rosenthal lived her entire life repeating her mantra, "Life is not a fairy tale". Her best friend was Colleen. Hayden Dean was San Francisco's business mogul millionaire magnet. Melina works for Celebrity Crush Magazine but longs to work for Eclipse, the city's leading fashion magazine. Gabriel Park was Hayden's pack mate, secondary, and most trusted friend. He got Hayden out of so many sticky situations he deserved a metal. Lydia Hyde was pack mate and co-founder of Dean, Hyde, and Hamilton and managing editor of Eclipse Magazine. Hayden was a 200yr old turned wolf. He'd been adopted by Angus Dean who was San Fransisco's wolf pack Alpha. He'd died last year. Hayden must have a make over if he wants to be named Alpha. If Hayden took everything more seriously, maybe the council would take him more seriously. A leader of a rogue pack identifies himself as Archer. The rogues state that they won't watch Hayden, a turned wolf, become leader

Review of The Ghosts of Peppernell Manor by Amy Reade

Carleigh was a restoration specialist. Evie was a friend Carleigh had in college. She'd told her grandmother about Carleigh and she'd been hired to restore Evie's grandmother's home. Carleigh had a daughter named Lucy that would be going with her to Peppernell Manor. Carleigh owned Warner Restorations and lived in Chicago. Brad was her ex-husband and Lucy's father. Cora/Camille was Evie's grandmother and her daughter was Ruby, who had anxiety issues. Evie's brother was Heath, who had a twin named Harlan. When Heath was not in Charleston, he helped his grandmother run the farm. Harlan wants investors to be brought in to pay for the restorations. Cora/Camille is against it and said she may have the state of South Carolina take over the home. Then people start turning up dead. Carleigh is a very sweet person. She's an excellent mom and hard worker. She is loyal, conscientious and protective. It was delightful to read the twists and turns of this story. I h

Review of An Amish Man of Ice Mountain by Kelly Long

Joseph King was 23. He worked from dawn to dusk. His job was exhausting mentally, physically, and spiritually. He worked four weeks on and two weeks off. He was driven to keep his 21yr old brother Edward safe and away from the world's influence. They were working on a gas drilling rig in West Virginia. They'd been there about two months. The brothers were complete opposites. Mary "Mama" Malizza ran the Bear Claw Inn with a soft heart and an iron hand. She knew how to handle rough men and understood them. Priscilla was hired as a waitress on a one week trial. She had a 4yr old daughter named Holly and they lived in Priscilla's station wagon. Joseph saw Priscilla go to the car and found out they were living in it. He tried to do little things to help out. Joseph took Priscilla and Holly to Ice Mountain for sanctuary. Her mother had been Amish but left to marry her dad. Priscilla was a very strong woman and did whatever it took to keep her child and herself safe. Sh

Review of Acting The Part by Justine Lewis

Poppy is a novice. It was clear things weren't going according to plan. In the last fortnight, she had a crash course in movie-making, vain actors, temperamental actresses, hissy fits, and tantrums. All the reasons she'd avoided her father's world. George was Poppy's dad. he was one of the biggest players in Hollywood. He needed success like most people needed air. Once Max learned that Poppy was George's daughter, he thought she was a spy. He decided to make her his assistant. The agreement was to work on the movie for 100 days and get 50,000 pounds. She needed the money to make her mom well. Poppy's mom was Gabrielle. She was an actress and had been treated horribly by the business. Poppy was lost in the new world she was in, but she was determined to do a good job not matter the job. She was very responsible, but she had to grow to work out the relationship she ended up wanting. She was the type to do what she had to do when it was something she believed in,

Review of The Harlot Countess by Joanna Shupe

Image
On the night of Maggie's debut, a huge scandal had spread like wildfire, destroying her reputation and essentially shunning her from society. Simon Barrett, the Earl of Winchester, was the one person she had prayed would take her side or at least ask her what happened. Instead he shunned her like everyone else. Desperate, Maggie leaves society and marries a much older man. 10 years later, Maggie, now Lady Hawkins, is widowed and back in London. This time she's determined to live up to her reputation as the Half-Irish Harlot. There's now an artist that is releasing cartoons of Simon, ridiculing him and his youthful exploits. When he runs into Maggie for the first time since that awful night, he can't get her out of his mind. Now he just has to get her to talk to him. Decides to ask her to help him track down the artist. Unbeknownst to him, Maggie is the artist, using the drawings as a way to vent her betrayal by him all those years ago. Many historical books tend to show

Review of Fall Away by Zoe York

Trick Novak is on leave from his team's latest mission, suffering from Insomnia. The only cure he's yet to find is a night with a woman. When he wakes up next to one whose name he doesn't even remember, he feels kind of bad. As he attempts to leave, he finds out that her roommate, Gabby, is actually the one whose attention he'd actually wanted. Problem is, she wants nothing to do with a womanizer, especially one that hooked up with her roommate. When Trick keeps running in to her, he decides he won't take no for an answer when it comes to going on a date with her. He's just not sure how to get her to fully change her mind about him. Trick, being the consummate bad boy and right from the beginning, finding someone he seriously wants to pursue, is just really sweet as he tries to win Gaby over. His determination and drive really show as he unwittingly changes his ways for Gaby. I totally understand Gaby's stance on the situation and her reluctance to fall for

Lila Merriweather lives in a world were there are monsters, fairies, and humans with Talents. She is a 17yr old orphan with two rare Talents that lies, and steals for a living. She works for a man that runs a pawn shop named Moe and the initial view of their relationship reminds you of the Artful Dodger and Fagin. The town that she works for is controlled by several Families, two in particular, that rule like the Mob but have a feud worse than the Hatfields and McCoys. Lila avoids both families at all costs, but one day she can't help save a boy, Devon, that happens to be the son of one of the rival Families. Because of her actions, she's forced into being his bodyguard as someone seems to really want him dead. At the beginning of this book, when we meet Lila, she's very much alone, angry, and above all, a survivalist. She's very street smart and yet holds some beliefs that a

Review of WOLF by Nicole James

Image
Wolf is a member of the Evil Dead MC. Crystal's job was cleaning club's clubhouse and managing the bar. Crystal portrayed herself as being tough but she had a girly side. Her involvement with Wolf was very complicated. Crystal was a complicated contraction, tough and edgy on the outside, but soft on the inside that she only showed on occasion. She was the only one that understood the beast inside Wolf. Wolf didn't know if he could do a real relationship. He had been ordered by the club President to either go into a relationship with Crystal or set her loose. I found Crystal to be a strong person. She loved her man with all she had, but she finally had to walk away with her heart shattering. You really learn to care for Crystal and all she went through and you cheer her on. Wolf was a very strong, tough man. He did what had to be done as far as the club went, but he had a lot of personal doubts about himself and relationships. Crystal was in his blood. It was

Review of Hard Ride Pt 3 by Opal Carew

Liv got a phone call from the hospital. Her sister was dying, yet she has learned she can lean on Shock. He is making calls to assure a quick way to return so Liv can be with her. Tempest offered Liv comfort and she accepted it, even if it was only a hand on her back. Even as young as 8yrs old Liv had taken care of her sister as they grew up and her sister had always looked out for her. Liv decided to not turn Shock away this time used his strength and caring to carry on. There was a new and experimental drug and Shock ensured Liv that her sister would have the best that money could buy. On returning to Shock's house, Liv was surprised at the support from his friends and that they all seemed to care.  This was a really good book. I highly recommend it.

Review of The Kennedy Wives by Amber Hunt and David Butcher

Image
While the Kennedy men appeared to be very much in the public eye, either for their politics or their exploits, their wives stood quietly by their sides. This book is the story of them and everything that they went through with the triumphs and tragedies of being a Kennedy. Considering I grew up a few generations past the Kennedy era, I never witnessed what made him so appealing by the American people. Aside from the tragic death of him and his brother and that his sister married a Rat Packer, I knew little else about the Kennedies. But when I saw this book, something about it drew me to it. Once I started the book, I was very surprised that I enjoyed it, even from the beginning, reading about the Matriarch Rose and what kind of woman she was. Considering the era she was in, it wasn't the kind of person I would have been. As I kept reading everything that happened to these women, I got a good understanding of what made them tick and what kept them going. I recommend this book to an

Review of The Club: Ace by Jenna Elliot

Image
Ace is a partner in the club Command Performance. He likes to break in new members to Level 2. The story starts with him starting Emme's trial into Level 2. Unlike other members, Emme seems to enjoy everything for the enjoyment of it. Not to appease a dark side like most of the members, including Ace. There's something about her and her enjoyment that sooth's Ace's dark side and makes him want more than just a play thing. Outside of the club, Emme is the girl next door. She just finished her schooling to be an Accountant. She attends Sunday dinners with her family. What she doesn't need is the complications that occur whenever she's been with Ace. This book starts out very hawt. The scenes with Emme and Ace were very steamy and for most of the book, I liked the interactions and budding feelings between the two. While at first I thought Emme was written a bit too naive, as the story progressed, I really liked that she wasn't and that she was actually strong-w

Review of For Valentine's by Kat and Stone Bastion

Image
This is the final story of Cade and Hannah, taking place shortly after Three Christmases. In this novella, we find Cade wanting to make Valentine's Day perfect with an itinerary that can't fail. It's to be a do-over from his horrible one several years earlier. While his plans didn't go exactly as planned, having faced several bumps (or ice spots) in the road, it ends perfectly. This was a lovely cap to a very sweet series. As with the others, it's well written with some very hawt scenes. Not much in it in regards to conflict, but it's nice to have a story that takes place after the happily-ever-after. I look forward to reading more from these great authors.

Review of Cold Target by Patricia Potter

Image
Holly Mathew Ames's son's name was Mikey and her husband was Randolph. Randolph had hired a man to kill her. Holly made small sculptures and sold them to a craft shop and hoarded the money. She wanted to leave long before, but was afraid of losing her son because of her husband's power and alliances. Mikey was her all. Meridith Rawson was a lawyer. Her mom was dying. Marguerite had been the perfect wife and hostess. As a kid, Meridith didn't get much positive reinforcement, but on her mother's deathbed, she was told she had a half sister and she wanted her to find her and give her half of the trust fund. Gage Gaynor is a cop who had testified against dirty cops. Meridith thought he was also a dirty cop, which bothered him. He had looked the other way a few times until he witnessed a cop murder a few other cops. He had been a cop for 15 years. I found that Meridith was one that hid her emotions well. She was mentally strong, determined and independent. She was carin

Review of Escorting the Billionaire Pt 1 by Leigh James

Image
James Preston called an escort service to hire a date for his brother's wedding. It would be for two weeks. He had to have her for cocktail parties, lunches, brunches, the rehearsal wedding, and a trip to the Caribbean with his brother and his bride. James preferred to be alone and left to his own devices. He was a real estate mogul. Audrey used the name Dre for work as an escort. She would earn $65,000 for the two weeks. That would make a lot of leeway for her brother Tommy. Audrey is a good girl, doing what she has to do. She adores her brother and is determined to take care of him. She can give as good as she takes. You really enjoy getting to know her has the story goes on. James is a very successful man, but has a lot of hangups because of his parents. He loves his brother. He is basically a loner and is why Audrey is in his life. He surprises himself and learns he can and does have feelings other than bad ones. I highly recommend this book.

Review of The Wedding Audition by Catherine Mann and Joanne Rock

Anna Mae Jessup had snagged Atlanta's golden boy, the 3rd baseman for the Atlanta Stars. Her family had become Atlanta's small time cable's answer to the Kardashians. The show was called Acting Up. Five years of Anna Mae's life had been documented. Her role was as the good girl in the middle of drama. All she wanted was a peaceful life and to finish her degree in Hospitality and Tourism. The pressure of being followed night and day finally exploded. Her world narrowed down to one thing, escape and regroup. Wynn Rafferty was better known as Heath Lambert. He was in the Witness Protection Program. He had a trial to attend about a Miami drug lord. He was an undercover cop. Wynn's only companions were a bunch of cats. Anna Mae ran away from her life and accidentally broke up with her fiance. She ended up in Beulah, Alabama. Anna was looking for real life. I found her to be brave and loyal. She was also inquisitive. She grew a lot in this book and it was enjoyable to wa

Logan hasn't been able to hear since he was 13. His oldest brother, Paul, was the head of the family. Emily/Kit punched Logan in the nose two days ago at his family-owned tattoo shop. Logan saw Kit playing her guitar in the tunnel. He drops a $20 in her case and talks her into getting something to eat. His brothers don't know he can still talk. Kit stands in line to stay at the homeless shelter for the night, but it's full before she gets to the beginning. Logan talks her into staying at his house for the night so she has some place to sleep. Kit really likes Logan, that's why she feels she can't stay. There are too many people looking for her. Logan's brother Matt has cancer. He was in love with a girl named April, but she dumped him when she found out he was sick. Logan is a strong man, caring and can be very determined. he loves his bros but has never been in love, even though girls are very attracted to him. Logan isn't vain or conceited. He's actua

Burning for You by Michele Dunaway

Taylor Krebs felt fantasy was almost always better than reality. She was working towards her Masters in Media Communications. She wants to make it as a photographer but she could always get a job teaching at the college level. She had been chosen to photograph the Sexy Public Servants of St. Louis calendar. Taylor felt Mr. September, Joe Marino, was the sexiest. He was a firefighter. Taylor prided herself in never being out of control, but with Joe, he could shatter her control with words. Taylor also worked as a waitress at Presley's. She had submitted 13 project ideas to her professor for her final in her Masters, but they were all rejected. The professor saw a picture of Joe and said Joe should be the subject for her final project. Owen was Taylor's ex from two years ago. I found Taylor to be a very sweet and loyal person. She had a bad relationship and stayed away from involvements for a long time. She was independent and could be stubborn, but she grew through this story

Unbound - Colours of Love

Grace Lawson is 22 and is going to England. It's her first trip abroad. She has a major in Economics at the University of Chicago. She got a highly coveted internship at Huntington Ventures Company. It's been around for 8 years. In That time, it became one of the most successful investment firms in the world. The co-founder is Jonathan Huntington. Ann French is 23. She's a junior assistant in the investment department where Grace will be working. On the second day, she's called to Jonathan's office, where he tells her she'll be working with him. Jonathan can drive a hard bargain, but he also seems to be personally invested in everything he does. Annie warns Grace not to fall for Jonathan. I found Grace to be a very young 22. She's very rash and trusting. She goes against sound judgement even when she's set to be hurt. She loves deeply, right or wrong. She pushes her own boundaries for love. Jonathan is not as cold as he wants people to believe he is. He

Review of Inhuman Interest by Eric Turowski

Image
Tess is a reporter at a local newspaper. There had been four cemetery burglaries in the city, each about a month apart. Tess called the police and asked for Detective Austin and asked if they had figured out that the guy hit during the full moon. It had been a five month investigation. Corpses had been taken, but the valuables hadn't. Tess loved mysteries, but felt she was going to get fired from the paper as they had her working on stories she didn't like. Devon Egypt ran an ad for an assistant for two years starting ASAP. Tess was the first to apply. He wanted her to help with occult research. Devon worked at night. He was a very odd man. I found Tess to be quite a character, not really knowing what she was doing when she started working for Devon. She grew to trust him. She was smart, mentally strong and could be a very determined person when she chose to be. She was also compassionate and caring. I enjoyed this book. I would probably recommend it to science fiction readers.

Review of Twisted by Andrew E. Kaufman

Image
Chris Kellan works at Loveland Psychiatric hospital. He is a psychologist. Alpha 12 is the worst of the worst: killers, rapists, dark souls that have an incurable addiction to evil. Christ works with Dr. Adam Wiley. Adam is a neurologist. He works on the medical side of things. Donnie Ray Smith is being transferred from the Miller Institute of Northern Arizona. The Neurologist from Miller said Donnie was memory malingering. His crimes were murdering young girls. So far he was only caught on the last one, a 6yr girl. Altogether there were 10 girls tied to him. With Chris, the most important thing is his son, and he must be kept safe. I found Chris to be a very intelligent man who loves his wife, but his son is his all. The journey he travels through in this book at times can bring you to tears. This was a pretty good book, but it sometimes drags, but there's something always keeping you reading. I'm not sure if I'd recommend it as it takes so long to get where it's goin

Review of Cult Midnight Movies by Danny Peary

Image
This book is a collection of 37 movies that could only be categorized as true cult movies, the subtext being the best weird, sleazy, sexy and crazy. The author gives very in-depth detail of the top movies in this genre. He includes, not only the details of the movies, his opinions no the movies, but also information on the actors, the making of the movies, the stories behind them, and also sorts of info. I'm a huge movie fan. I love watching off-beat movies that would be considered cult favorites. However, I had only heard of some of the movies in this book, like John Waters' Pink Flamingos with the late great Divine, and had only watched one or two of them. This book gave me some great ideas for movies to try to track down. I would recommend it for anyone that loves these kinds of movies.

Review of True Alpha Vol 1-6 by Alisa Woods

Image
Mia is a shifter, trying to deny that part of herself as she works her way through college to take care of her mother. Lucas is a very broken alpha without a pack. While he still works in his fathers company, he's now a lone wolf, forcing his way through life until one night he rescues Mia from being attacked by members of a rival pack. Both of them are very surprised the following Monday when she's his new intern. While their attraction is explosive, Lucas is too broken to mark her. Once other wolves, including the rival pack, realizes what Mia is, it might be too late. I liked how both lead characters were written. You could really feel Lucas's pain as well as his inner struggles over his attraction to Mia. I liked Mia's determination to overcome her circumstances. The only thing about Mia I didn't really care for was how she continually tried to push her submission on Lucas when he obviously didn't want it and wasn't ready. The only thing overall I didn&

Review of Suspended in Dusk by Multiple Authors

Image
Suspended in Dusk is an anthology full of creepy horror stories. It starts off with a story about an aid that embraces death, continues with an elderly couple that will sacrifice anyone to survive and just goes from there. Like any anthology, there are some stories I liked and some stories that were just creepy. Regardless, I found each story well written and definitely worth a try for anyone that likes horror stories.

Review of SEAL of My Heart by Sharon Hamilton

Image
Kate Morgan is headed to Portland to spend some time with her sister before her upcoming wedding. On the plane, she meets Navy SEAL Tyler Gray.  By the time the flight is over, Kate is rethinking her marriage and Tyler can't forget about Kate. From that point on, circumstances come up that seem to want to keep them apart. I really love SEAL books as well as love at first sight(as long as the author has written it well enough for me to buy it), but for some reason this just didn't work for me. I didn't get any kind of chemistry from the lead characters in the beginning, especially the kind for her to call off her engagement. I also didn't really care for everything that  was so much thrown into this story. It just didn't work for me.

Review of The Proud and the Prejudiced by

Image
This is another retelling of the classic Pride and Prejudice. Since I'm a huge fan of the original, I'm always up for reading authors' fresh retellings so I can compare them. In this version, Alice McGillicutty is the heroine. She's the head writer for a daytime soap opera. When their ratings take a nose dive and they are in fear of being cancelled, the show gets saved by a big-time actor Peter Walsingham, who is being forced to finish out his studio contract on the show. Right from the beginning, the two clash on every point, especially with the interference of others. I really liked this retelling. I thought the author did a great job of putting the main characters in this story. She did well with including the main secondary characters and not trying to overcrowd this new plot by sticking in every single person. I LOVED the names she used for some of the characters.  The only thing I didn't care and am still not 100% was the secondary story that Alice was readin

Review of Three Christmases by Kat Bastion and Stone Bastion

This is the fourth full-length story about Cade and Hannah in the No Weddings series. In this story, Cade is given a dream-come-true job opportunity. The only problem is that it's on the other side of the country. Hannah is completely busy with her shop and she an unexpected email that she must deal with. During the book they are forced to look at the problems with long-distance relationships. I've read the first two books in this series, so I was excited to read this one too. They are all well written. This was was nice in that it was in both of their POVs during their separation. I really loved the ending. The only complaint I would have with this book is that, for being 4 books in, there isn't a whole lot of conflict (hence 4 stars instead of 5). I caught myself skimming through different parts, especially when it wasn't interaction between Hannah and Cade. I recommend this book to anyone that likes contemporary romance.

Review of Dark Instincts by Suzanne Wright

Roni Axton was in a car that was upside down. She felt no pain, fear, or panic, only a feeling of weightlessness. Her brother is the Alpha of a recently formed Mercury pack. At school she had been a tomboy and had a high IQ, even higher than her teachers. Also, she didn't understand her own gender. She was more comfortable around guys, particularly her two brothers and the Beta male. The only female she thought of as a friend was the Alpha female Shaya. Roni remembered going to the zoo with Shaya, who was 2 months pregnant and wanted to get away from Nick, Roni's brother, and his over-protectiveness. With them was Shaya's Godson Kye and his bodyguard Tao. They were on the drive back to their pack's territory, their car was hit by another car. Marcus Fuller was the Phoenix pack enforcer. Roni and her wolf were very attracted to him but wouldn't admit it. Roni was basically a loner, very smart, very loyal and very strong. For those she cared about, there wasn't a

After the incident at college, Liv started to put Shock away. When he seen her start to slip away, he asked her out on a date. Spending long hours taking care of her sister and grandmother, Liv seemed to lose socialization skills, but she still met Shock's friends. Liv is growing and healing in the second part of this story and you cheer her on, even through he tears. Shock is a very strong man. He comes across a hard bike, but is actually soft on the inside. He does everything he can to put Liv at ease. He's loyal and considerate and actually sweet. I am thoroughly enjoying this story.

Carl was supposed to meet Liv at midnight at the bar and it was close to one. A big tattooed guy named Crow and three men sat down at her table. Lenny threatened to ban them from the bar if they don't leave her alone. Shock recognizes Liv. She had rejected him when they were in college, but he still would've went to her side if Lenny hadn't intervened. He had always felt protective of her. Shock's real name was Devon and he came from a rich family. When she knew him from college, he'd had money and connections, everything. Liv was the opposite, she had worked for everything she had. She had been, and still was, attracted to Devon. Devon gave her a ride home. Shock and Liv hadn't seen each other for six years. Liv's older sister was very sick and she needed money for a new surgery that would possibly s

Grace Buchanan's mother had died. Upon meeting her lawyer, Mr. Grimes, he mentioned Grace's mother's other name and that she'd changed her name and the reason would become clear later. Grace had to fulfill certain actions in order to inherit her mother's estate. It would take ten days. Grace's job was to photograph celebrities, even though she was trained in opera. Grace was told she would have Alastair, who was a royal marine, travel with her. Grace was an artistic person with her camera and with her voice, but not necessarily really living her life. Through her mom's death, in a way, her life is turned upside down and you watch how she changes and grows. She's loyal, caring and endearing, even if she doesn't realize it. Alistair is a very strong man. He's smart, loyal and caring. In his own way, he's also only living half a life because he's a marine and personally blames himself when something happens to his men. He also does some gro

Review of No Weddings by Kat Bastion

Cade Michaelson is master of his current domain: He's finishing his Masters, he's launched a successful bar with his partner, he's launching a successful party planning business with his sisters, and he loves being a womanizer. Then he meets Hannah Martin, an up and coming cake designer that would be perfect for his new business, and the one woman he promised not to touch. Problem is, as he spends more and more time with her, all in the name of business of course, he's finding long buried emotions fighting to break free. Unfortunately, Hannah might be just as scarred as he is. The first thing that drew me to this book was the fact that it was a romance written by a husband and wife time. I'm glad I decided to give it a try. Once I started it, I didn't stop until several hours later when I finished it. Even though Cade is a cad when the book begins, his personality makes you giggle and cheer him on. Since I haven't read the others in this series yet, I don&#

Review of Omega by SM Reine

Image
It's been 10 years since everyone died and many of them were reborn. Most of those reborn were now OTHER, like shape shifters and vampires. Deidre was one such person that was reborn as a shape shifter. She has many of the attributes, but unfortunately, she can't actually shift. This makes her an Omega and an outcast. Yet somehow she's found herself an MVP between two alphas: the Alpha in charge of all shifters and the Alpha that is forming an uprising to become the Alpha in charge. As soon as I started reading this book, I was totally drawn in. Deidre has been given the short end of the stick since the beginning of her "new" life. She's just trying to survive with what's been given to her when she's suddenly thrust in this war. During the entire novel, you can't help but feel for her. By her lot in life, she should be on the side of the rebels, but dreams of a better life and morals draw her in to helping the current Alpha, even at the risk of her

Review of Fatal Obsession by Christina Ow

Damien Chan was a cop. He was a tattoo and fitness freak like his cousins Dale and Derrick, who are really more like brothers. When on vacation, a crying woman yelled at his hotel room for help and he let her in. He was supposed to leave to go back to work the next day, but instead she talked him into staying longer to help her. He left 2 days later. Shortly after that, he started looking for the girl. Two years later, she asked him to stop searching. Five years later, he's still obsessed and searching. Damien believes the woman he has been seeking is Dale's wife. Ellsa/Tasha were such opposite people One was confident, no conscious, simply unfeeling and deadly. The other one is caring, but scared, loyal and loving. She's also a good mom. She was also tormented by her nightmares. Damien is determined, strong but soft, very smart, loyal and caring. The book was very good, but it got a little slow at times. You still kept going as something urged you to continue and finish th

Review of The Lady Meets Her Match by Gina Conkle

Claire Mayhew wanted to run her own coffee shop. For this, she will need a man's help. There was a 4 month waiting period to see Cyrus Ryland when she tried to go see him directly. Abigail Green let Claire in Ryland's House and showed her where the Ryland study was but wouldn't stay. I found Claire to have a very warm and tender heart. She was caring and trusting, yet also stubborn and determined to succeed. She's independent yet still would like a man to lean on to mentally sooth her. Cyrus is also very stubborn and loyal. He has very strong family values. He's protective and kind. He's a good man, strong physically as well as mentally. I felt the author did a great job on creating a book with a strong plot, emphasizing problems women had with no real rights. Great read.

Review of His Secretary: Unveiled by Melanie Marchande

Image
This story takes place just as His Secretary: Undone ends and spans several months into Adrian and Meg's lives together. It also flashes back to their initial meeting and other significant points in their 5 year relationship. While the first book is fast and hawt, this one focuses on their relationship after the "I dos". With Adrian no longer a CEO of a company, he starts folding into his own world, basically leaving Meg to the side when they should be adjusting to being a real couple. Will they be able to work through their real problems? Since I've come to love this author's funny stories with strong female characters, this story was on my must reads and auto-buy. However, this one was a bit different from the ones I've read so far. I don't usually read too many stories that take place after the couple gets their HEA, but I'm glad I read this one. The author uses the spark each character has in the first book to show you how misunderstandings can re

Review of Jinn and Juice by Nicole Peeler

Image
Lyla is a Jinn that is a week away from breaking her curse if she can keep from being bound by a Magi during that time. Oz is a new Magi that bounds Lyla to him in order to find a friend in trouble. While helping him find his friend so she has time to break her curse, Lyla finds out that not all Magi are created equally as Oz battles to help her with an age old enemy. While the cover is what got me interested in this book, I actually put off reading it for awhile. I'd never really read one based on the Jinn so it wasn't on the top of my list. However, once I started the book, I read it at every opportunity until I finished it. The author does an excellent job in throwing you into Lyla's life and really puts you into her character. While there's definitely a build-up of emotion between Lyla and Oz, the book isn't hindered at all by it and is full of a complete plot. My only problem with this book is that I have to wait for the author to continue Lyla's story. Ex

Review of A Highlander's Passion by Vonnie Davis

Kenzie Denune has had a crappy life and it keeps getting crappier. All she wants is one break. On her way to a much-needed job interview, she crashes into the one bear-shifter that has managed to break her heart several times. The last time drove her into the arms of a man that became an abusive husband. She really doesn't want or need him making her his prime target again right now. Bryce Matheson has finally figured out that he can't live without Kenzie anymore so he's determined to wear her down and make her his permanent mate. His timing couldn't be any worse or more needed as her life is about to completely change. Let me start by saying this book was hilarious! I laughed throughout the entire book. Overall it was a good book. All of the emotional turmoil Kenzie goes through was very well written. I especially loved Bryce and his determination to win her back while taking dating advice from his little girl. Colleen is priceless!! There were only two things I found

Review of Bite at First Sight by Brooklyn Ann

It's the early 1800s and widowed Cassandra Burton wants to be a doctor. She's been studying, experimenting and researching for years, regardless of the fact that she's a female so nobody in the medical field will take her seriously. One night, while in a graveyard digging up a body for more research, she gets stopped by Rafael Villar, a mysterious man she's taken notice of whenever she sees him. Now that he's decided she's his prisoner, she's able to take a much bigger notice. All for the sake of research... There aren't a whole lot of books that have my 2 favorite genres together and when they are, they aren't always successful. When I saw this book, I was interested in giving it a try. Overall it didn't disappoint. It was a very good plot overall. I liked that author gave the characters time to develop their feelings for each other and the plot was full and wasn't hinging on misunderstandings. Cassandra was definitely smart and determined

Review of Just a Little Flirt by Renita Pizzitola

Image
This is the story of Fallon, the roommate of Brinley from the author's first book, Just A Little Crush. Because of that book, I had a preconceived notion of Fallon as the stereotypical college party girl that likes to get around. Because of this, I was a little hesitant to read the book. However, I'm very happy that the publisher sent me an invite to try this book through NetGalley. I think it shows how good an author is when they can take a character not necessarily liked and turn her around and make you really sympathize with her. This book starts in Fallon's life shortly after the first book ends. It's the first day of orientation for her internship at a local hospital. On her way there, she's running late and, literally, runs into Cade Ryan, a volunteer at the hospital. Cade is everything Fallon feels she isn't and doesn't want to hook up with: a genuine good person. This internship gives her an opportunity to find something she really enjoys and can be

Review of Darkness Eternal by Alexandra Ivy

Uriel is a vampire, second in command to Victor and best warrior. Victor is the clan chief of Great Britain Sylver Myst, the evil cousins of the fey. Uriel now plotted strategy, draws up scout rotations and researches the history of the Sylver Myst instead of being in the field. He's also on- call 24/7 to his chief. The Commission is a powerful council who ruled the demon world. Tane is a vampire. His companion is a female who is a female half-breed Jinn named Laylah. Her mother, Kata, was human, and being held captive by a female vampire, Marika and her pet mage. Tane has managed to convince Victor that Laylah was somehow important to the future and her captive mother must somehow be protected. I found Kata to be strong, determined, very caring and stubborn. Uriel has the same traits as well as being very loyal. I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone that likes paranormal stories with a side of romance.

Review of Resounding Truth by Kate Thomas

Image
Drucilia is the daughter of the former Alpha of the Grayback wolf pack. She was raised to be mated to Derik, the current Alpha and the one that killed her father to get the position. Instead, Derik denied her as a mate, which was a good thing because even though he forces an attraction on her, she can't stand him and refuses to bow down to him. The only one she cares about protecting is her sister Karis. When a lone alpha appears as the pack is endangered, he just might be the alpha she's been waiting for. Even though she's a female, Dru is a total Alpha. While her sister is her top priority, she is dedicated to and worries about her pack. Even though this was a novella, I thought the author did an excellent job in giving a full story and creating a new world. The characters were pretty well developed.

Review of The Vampire Jerome by Ann B. Morris

Image
Jerome Whitcome is waiting at the airport for his brother Julian. To the Whitcombe family, honor and family come before all else. Dottie had been kidnapped by the evil vampire Zurik and had a neurological condition that sent her into a deep sleep with little warning. Julian had agreed to help and contacted a doctor for her. Dottie was Simone's step-sister, whom is engaged to Julian. Jerome had a response as soon as he touched Dottie. Dottie had been held by Zurik for two months. Jerome watched over Dottie as the others slept. Jerome admitted he had a love of sarcasm but was often cynical, self-indulgent, and at times, outright rebellious. Jerome was the odd man out, most resistant to the change in his nature on his 18th birthday. He was also the middle child and felt he had been overlooked by his mom as well as Julian's shifter Michael. Jerome had always found something or someone else to blame when things didn't work out the way they should. Jerome was having problems with
