Review of The Wedding Cake Tree by Melanie Hudson

Grace Buchanan's mother had died. Upon meeting her lawyer, Mr. Grimes, he mentioned Grace's mother's other name and that she'd changed her name and the reason would become clear later. Grace had to fulfill certain actions in order to inherit her mother's estate. It would take ten days. Grace's job was to photograph celebrities, even though she was trained in opera. Grace was told she would have Alastair, who was a royal marine, travel with her.
Grace was an artistic person with her camera and with her voice, but not necessarily really living her life. Through her mom's death, in a way, her life is turned upside down and you watch how she changes and grows. She's loyal, caring and endearing, even if she doesn't realize it. Alistair is a very strong man. He's smart, loyal and caring. In his own way, he's also only living half a life because he's a marine and personally blames himself when something happens to his men. He also does some growth during the story.
The book did drag some, but I did push on as a little something held me to the story. I did enjoy it. I would recommend it with the foretold knowledge that it does drag on in some spots.
