Review of Wild Heat by Lucy Monroe

Wild Heat (Northern Fire, #1)Caitlin "Kitty" Grant is coming home to Cailkirn, Alaska. She's reclaimed her life back after 8 years with a horrible, abusive husband. She has finally accepted that Cailkirn is her home and she's ready to start over. Tack MacKinnon is the best friend that she shot away all those years ago. Unbeknownst to her, he was crazy in love with her at the time, even leaving Cailkirn to follow her to college in California. After she threw their friendship away, Tack moved on, went back home, and built a career and his dream home. When he first hears she's coming back, he vows to avoid her, but as soon as he actually sees her, he can't stay away no matter how much his old pain resurfaces. Seeing Tack after so many years for Kitty is like a pitcher of ice water after walking through the desert. The big question is can Tack help her heal while forgiving her for her past sins?
In the beginning of the story, Kitty is a very broken person after what she has survived from her ex-husband. She's also battling anorexia, something she developed at her lowest points. Throughout the book, we see her start to come back into her self and be able to live and feel again.
While it's evident that Tack is still hurt over what Kitty did to him, and that he's in denial about his feelings, he also can't help instantly becoming her protector and do what he can to help heal her. His inner strength and love shine throughout the entire book.
I really enjoyed this book and both of the main characters in it. I also really enjoyed the side characters and look forward to more books from this town. I though that the author did a really good job in showing the inner struggles that Kitty was going through, not with her emotions and self doubt, but the in-depth struggle with anorexia. I highly recommend this book.
