Review: Awakened

Awakened Awakened by Elisabeth Naughton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Elysia is a princess on Argolia, a land ruled by the descendants of the original Argonauts. When she finds out that her parents have arranged her marriage to a councilman's son rather than a mate of her choosing, she's furious and takes off. When she goes to the portal guarded by witches, she finds they've been attacked and she's captured by the Sirens to become their newest recruit. While on a dangerous island to complete the first set of tasks, she meets Damon, toy of the Gods for the past 25 years. He doesn't remember anything before that time, but there's something explosive between the two of them that just can't be coincidence.
When I started reading this book, there were two things that had me iffy about wanting to read it. 1-Having grown up on Greek Mythology, I HATE it when authors take too many liberties. 2-The obviousness of what the hero's been doing for the past 25 years right from the start. Having faith in this author, I accepted that she'd be able to weave a story that I would love, so I held off my hesitations and delved in. I'm really glad I held my faith. This was a great story from start (after we bypass the introduction to Damon) to finish. I had a hard time putting it down even for the necessities like sleep. I loved Elysia's character. Her strength, love, and belief in those she loves. Even when Damon, being a typical guy, is a bit shaken, her love and trust don't waver. I highly recommend and can't wait to read the rest of the stories in this series.
