Review of Personal Geography by Tamsen Parker

India lives in San Diego and likes to be dominated, being someone's sub. Ray is India's good friend and mentor and is handy with knots. Ray is also gay and India asks him why he can't just like women. Ray's vocation is helping people to navigate the world of kink. He has a talent for absolute discretion. India met Ray her freshman year at Princeton. He was welcoming her to her dorm. That was 10 years ago. India works for Jack at Jack Valentine Associates and is also the new face of his company. Jack likes India's ability to be yelled at without blinking. India is ready to look for a new Dom and goes to Ray. He tells her about Kris Ardmore. He lives in Hawaii so India decides that is a good start. Kris just ended a 5 year contract with a sub. He is monogamous with his females. When India had went to her first play party years ago, she met Hunter. He rescued her from an uncomfortable encounter from a disrespectful Dom. In the end though, Hunter had really messed with India's whole life in his determination to completely control her. India doesn't do relationships because of the damage caused by Hunter. India's first contract had been with him. She had been with him from the time she was 18 until just before she turned 25. Matty is Ray's sub but more runs the administrative side to Ray's business. He also acts as India's babysitter, escort, and bodyguard.
My impression is that India had 2 definite parts to her. On one side, she is strong, dominating and decisive woman. Yet the other half, when she's referred to as Kit, is the part of her that is submissive, likes to be whipped and paddled. I enjoyed the book. It gave me a good look into this lifestyle and what would make people attracted to it.
