Review of Darkness of Light by Stacey Marie Brown

Ember has lived in Olympia, Washington for 5 years. Ember has been hearing voices and seeing things that shouldn't exist for years. She also has two different colored eyes: one is a bright yellow and the other is a pale blue lavender. Ember's mom died 5 years ago and she was being raised by her step-father Martin. Ben Harris is a basketball star who was gorgeous and sat next to her in class. Kellie Parsons is a popular cheerleader. She and most of the school were afraid of Ember. Kellie has become really cruel since Ember and Ben became friends. Ember loses a bet and has to go to the school dance. Ember became upset and things in the gym started exploding. The principal asked her why things were exploding and planned on finding out why. Ember was made to go to Silverwood. Between the principal and sheriff she had no choice. At Silverwood one of her leaders was Eli Dragen. She had seen him at the sheriff's office handcuffed to a chair. Eli has a very strange affect on Ember. Eli saves Ember from going to jail but the sheriff puts in a complaint to Silverwood. She and Eli end up having to teach a rope class together. Eli is in a motorcycle club called the Riders of Darkness.
Eli is a complex character who, against his better judgement, is protective of Ember and has a reluctant attraction and feelings towards her, even though he shouldn't. Ember is troubled by the fact that she has these powers and that she has been causing these problems with them. She is also attracted to Eli, but tore between the back and forth of their relationship. My heart went out to her with the conflict she is dealing with.
I really enjoyed the story and would recommend it.
